After Dec 2003!!                          Up

The last RAE conducted by the City & Guilds will be in December 2003.

On March 26th (2002) the Radiocommunications Agency issued a press release giving details for the revised structure for Amateur Radio.

For full details please visit the RA website.

I quote one important paragraph from it:

"Introduction of the Full licence syllabus is planned for early in 2004. From that date, entry into amateur radio will exclusively via the Foundation Licence."

The Foundation Licence can only be obtained by attending a Foundation Course.

This would therefore seem to exclude the house bound (and others who cannot get to a class) from becoming Radio Amateurs.

I have made my concerns aware to both the manager of the RSGB and the AR/CB department of the Radiocommunications Agency.

I

If you agree with my concerns, please make your feelings known to the RA and the RSGB and hopefully the door to Amateur Radio can be re-opened to the house-bound, disabled and others unable to attend a course.

(I would welcome a copy such letter/email)

Amateur Radio is a wonderful hobby for the house-bound!
